Wordometer Privacy Policy

Solo games, your personal statistics, and a cached daily challenge all work with no connection. The following is stored only on your device, whether or not you have an account:

• The current in-progress game
• Finished daily results from the last seven days
• Sound, appearance and privacy preferences
• Whether the tutorial has been completed

Uninstalling the app, or clearing its data, deletes all of it.

Signing in with Google — or with Apple on iOS — creates an account. Stored against it:

• Your user id, and the username you choose. Usernames are public — they appear on leaderboards.
• Your email address, from the sign-in provider. It identifies the account and is never shown to other players.
• Each finished game: the secret word, guesses taken, time taken, hints used, whether it was solved, which mode, and when it finished
• Your daily-challenge streak
• For custom multiplayer: rooms joined, and your results in them

This exists so your history survives changing phone, so leaderboards can be ranked, and so multiplayer rooms can run.

Collected only if you are signed in and “Share your guesses” is on. It is on by default, and can be switched off at any time in the app's settings.

Each guess in a finished game is stored:

• The word
• Its position in the game
• How close it was
• How far into the game it was made

This is used for three things:

• Rating how difficult each word is, so unfair ones can be removed
• Showing you how your result compares — “the average for this word is 8.4”
• Aggregate curiosities, like the most popular opening words

No per-player guess history is ever published or shown to anyone else. Anything public is an aggregate across all players.

Turning the switch off stops collection and deletes anything still waiting to upload from the device — so opting out is retroactive on that device, not just forward-looking.

Retention: individual guesses are deleted after 90 days. The aggregate figures they feed are kept indefinitely and contain nothing about any individual.

Google Analytics for Firebase, with its own switch in the app's settings. It is independent of accounts and works whether you are signed in or out.

Gameplay events recorded:

• Game started, completed or abandoned
• Attempts, duration, hints used
• Tutorial started or finished
• Share button tapped

Collected automatically by Firebase:

• A randomly generated app instance identifier
• Device model, OS version, app version
• Language and approximate region — country level, derived from your IP address, which is not retained by us
• Installs, updates, session starts, screens viewed

The advertising ID is not collected. The analytics library requests it by default, and that permission has been explicitly removed, because the app shows no ads.

The words you guess are never sent to Google. Guess data goes only to the app's own server.

Tapping Share hands an image and some text to your device's share sheet. We receive no copy, and are not told whether or how it was shared.

Neither the image nor the text ever contains a secret word or any word you typed — only coloured squares showing how close each guess got. They are safe to post publicly.

• Supabase — hosts the database of accounts, games, guesses and leaderboards
• Google — sign-in, and Analytics for Firebase (privacy policy)
• Apple — Sign in with Apple, on iOS

Data may be processed on servers outside your country.
